The most common route
Language school → work → permanent residence
Most of our students start with a Japanese language school, then change to a work visa and, years later, apply for permanent residence. These are the steps and the pages for each of them.

A visa is the entry stamp a Japanese embassy puts in your passport. The status of residence (在留資格) is what lets you stay and decides what you may do in Japan. Each status has its own page: who can get it, requirements, ISA forms and documents, family, extension.
