Transitional rule
The date your application was received decides
Not the date of the decision, but the day the immigration bureau received (受付) your application.
How the reform happened
Payment
When and how to pay the fee
You pay when permission is granted (article 67 of the Immigration Control Act). Nothing is charged when you apply or if you are refused.
Watch out for fake e-mails: ISA’s payment e-mails come only from @service-dgft.com (the payment link) and @veritrans.jp (payment choice and completion). ISA warns that requests from any other address are fraud.
ISA notes that the fee can be higher when a specified residence card (特定在留カード, residence card with the My Number function) is issued with the permission.
Not only extensions
Fees for other procedures
The 1 October 2026 reform did not change these amounts — they are the same in the cabinet order in force from that date.
